Fort Crailo and the Van Rensselaers: The Dutch Colonial Origins of Greenbush & the City of Rensselaer.Shirley Dunn. 2016. Illustrated history of the 1663 Fort Crailo built across the Hudson River from Fort Orange as protection and refuge for the early Dutch settlers living on the east side of the river.
The Narratives of North Greenbush. Jim Greenfield. 2015. The book reprints the first 75 short stories the Jim Greenfield, North Greenbush Town Historian has written for the local Advertiser. Available at North Greenbush Town Clerks office for $20.
The River Indians: Mohicans Making History. Shirley Dunn. 2009. A look at historic events in which the Mohicans participated: Leaders among the native nations on the Hudson, Mohicans welcomed Henry Hudson, who visited them for 13 days. They initiated the upriver fur trade and continued it for a century. Mohicans were close friends with the Dutch leader, Arent Van Curler, and helped save the farms of Rensselaerswyck.
The Time For Redemption. Jill Witbeck Knapp. 2017. The non-fiction account of East Greenbush farmer, William Witbeck who was charged with, and tried for the murder of Rensselaer County Deputy Sheriff Willard Griggs during an Anti-Rent incident in 1869.
